WHAT IS BALLROOM DANCING?
The word Ballroom is a generic term to cover the English style of Standard [Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep] AND Latin American [Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive].
Our Adult Starter Class is the perfect introduction to BOTH of these styles of dance; Standard and Latin.
You’ll never be bored or overwhelmed with technique as this class is to help you get your first steps.
This dance class is for people brand new to Ballroom and Latin dancing at our Starter Ballroom Dance Class you’ll be able to learn to dance with ease and you’ll finally realize it’s NOT as hard as you think, in fact, you may walk in like a baby giraffe first learning to walk but you’ll Waltz out [dad joke intended] with confidence and style.
You’ll LOVE learning in our fun and friendly studio with real qualified professionals to help fast-track your dancing.
WHAT DANCES WILL I LEARN? We focus on Slow Rhythm, Waltz, Jive, and Cha Cha Cha but also throw in other dances from time. These are the 4 most popular and usable dances you’ll need for your social dancing, wedding dances, and social events.

Gone are the days where you have to dance with someone – at least in the very beginning of Starter dancing.
No, you do not need a partner to start dancing and in fact, Solo dancing is a wonderful way to get fit, stay focused, and renew your passion in your life.
At some stage you may want a partner, after all, Ballroom dancing is built upon partnership leading, and following principles.
But it shouldn’t be the thing that precludes you from starting out and many of our seasoned dancers [been with us for 5-10 years many still don’t have partners] but have improved beyond their wildest dreams.
Private Lessons and Medal class provide the opportunity to dance with a teacher to experience partnership work but it’s not a dedicated partnership arrangement.
You can always rope a friend into coming along with you!
“You don’t need to be great to start but you need to start to be great!”
100% NO EXPERIENCE needed.
In actual fact, the experience can sometimes go against you especially if you have bad habits.
So you are MOST welcome and the primary bulk of our clientele are those who would fall into the raw-beginner-advanced beginner category.
Whilst we do have and train high-level DanceSport champions our business focuses on starting people’s dancing journey and taking them from no experience, two-left feet to…well, the sky’s the limit!
That is awesome you already have the dance bug within you!
The word experience can vary widely and greatly so it’s best you reach out to us via Facebook messenger with the following answers to these questions:
Sorry for the freakin’ inquisition but those are questions that will definitely help us to help you!
Ballroom dancing is still a class act but without the stuffiness of yesteryear.
You’re welcome to dress up to your heart’s content and you really wouldn’t be out of place.
However, you can also choose to dress in your own style think smart casual, after work, cocktail, or after 5-attire.
RECOMMENDED WEAR:
NOT RECOMMENDED WEAR:
We can’t allow anyone to dance in bare feet.
You don’t need to buy proper dance shoes but if you end up enjoying dancing and join the Improver or Medal class it’s recommended then.
We highly encourage men to take pride in their appearance and to dress well, look and smell good out of respect for their partners and the art.

As we have a strict no refund policy in place we have devised a 4 Stage Dance Plan should any lock-downs, sickness or teachers become unavailable.
STAGE 1: FILL-IN
This one is easy. One of our experienced teachers will step in and the class will continue as usual.
STAGE 2: RESCHEDULE
We will simply move the class to another start date, preferably the same time and day just in the future, you will be notified by email immediately if this happens.
STAGE 3: MAKEUP CLASS
If we can’t reschedule the class then we will make a separate class as a make-up where it makes sense to do so.
STAGE 4: ONLINE [the show must go on!]
If we can’t get a Fill-in or we can’t Reschedule or we can’t logically orchestrate a Makeup Class then, thankfully, we have a high-end production studio we use to broadcast lessons to thousands of dancers across the world we will use.
EXAMPLE: If we are halfway through the month of lessons you’ve paid for and we went into lockdown or teachers were sick [and the above couldn’t happen] we will host our class ONLINE at the same time and day where possible.
You would be notified with a specific login and link to the class and if you couldn’t attend live the replay will be accessible for 7-days.
WE HAVE YOU COVERED NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS – WE WILL DANCE!
Note: If the tectonic plates of the earth’s crust decided to open up and swallow us all and we couldn’t do any of the 4 stages we would absolutely issue refunds on the unused classes.
As we are the largest Ballroom studio in Canberra we come into contact with many members of the public throughout the week.
YOUR HEALTH IS OUR PRIORITY.
GROUP CLASSES AND LESSONS:
We never force people to dance with other people, however, we recognize that life must go on and it’s totally fine for students to dance with students and partners to dance with partners.
However, we do not advise teachers to dance with students yet in Group Classes due to the number of people we come into contact with.
If you do Private Lessons our teachers are not paid to risk their health and it’s their right to choose how much personal contact and how much physical dancing to do with a student.
After all, a healthy student + a healthy teacher means more dancing for longer, overall and that is the win!
We hope you understand it’s for the overall greater good as being sick, it really sucks!
